The apparatus took up all the seating area so I was cranking the wheel by hand. The wheel was worn 1/2" smaller in one area.A world of difference in what they were and did as compared to a modern wheel, though, and I'm assuming NO ONE still uses such an inefficient grinder today. If for no other reason, sandstone isn't hard enough to perform reasonably, to say nothing of the incredibly slow surface speed.
